Pend Oreille County Fire District 4 is currently recruiting Firefighter/EMTs for assignment to District Ambulances, Engines, Rescues, Tenders and Boat. These Firefighter/EMT positions are primarily for stipend paid volunteer assignments doing dual coverage on ambulances and Type 1 and 6 engines, but are expected to operate all apparatus upon completion of training on each vehicle type. Personnel in these positions are also utilized for state mobilization and other fire assignments throughout the state and region.
District 4 has entered into an agreement with Pend Oreille County Fire District 2, an ALS provider for most of Pend Oreille County, to staff a BLS ambulance 24/7 to respond throughout the county on medical aides in conjunction with a District 2 Paramedic responding in a separate vehicle. These members will be cross staffing Type 1 and 6 engines for fire response throughout the county, as well as in to western Bonner County, Idaho.
Stipend amounts for Firefighter EMTs are $85 for 12 hours, and $170 for 24 hours. Qualified non-EMT drivers make $50 and $100 for 12- and 24-hour shifts.
Qualified individuals should go to the District’s webpage, POD4.org, and download the volunteer application, fill it out as thoroughly as possible, and then submit it online to info@pofd4.org.
All applicants are subject to a district paid criminal background check and medical screening. Upon completion of the in-house initial training, the District tries to pay for all out of District training which is determined to be relevant to District 4 operations, in order to foster professional development.
Residents of Fire District 4’s response area that have no training are encouraged to apply, and District 4 will provide all relevant training related to firefighter 1 certification and/or EMT certification.
